Author Guidelines

1. Aims and Scope Fit

Resilient Civil Infrastructure Systems (RCIS) publishes rigorous, system-oriented research in civil infrastructure engineering. Submissions must demonstrate scientific merit, methodological rigor, and clear relevance to infrastructure performance, resilience, and lifecycle outcomes.

RCIS welcomes manuscripts in:

  • Structural resilience and performance-based engineering
  • Soil–structure interaction and geotechnical reliability
  • Infrastructure system modeling and risk-informed analysis
  • Transportation network resilience
  • Hydraulic infrastructure and flood risk management
  • Lifecycle engineering and infrastructure asset management
  • Climate-adaptive infrastructure design
  • Digital modeling and computational infrastructure systems

System-level contributions are prioritized over isolated component studies.

2. Article Types

RCIS considers:

  • Original Research Articles
  • Review Articles (critical, structured, and up-to-date)
  • Methodological/Modeling Studies
  • Field Performance Case Studies

3. Publication Model

  • Gold Open Access
  • Double-blind peer review
  • Biannual publication: January and August
  • Maximum 10 articles per issue

  3. Abstract (150–250 words)
  4. Keywords (3–6)
  5. Introduction
  6. Materials and Methods / Methodology
  7. Results
  8. Discussion
  9. Conclusions
  10. Funding (if any)
  11. Conflict of Interest statement
  12. Data Availability statement
  13. Acknowledgements (optional)

  • Figures and tables must be cited in the text and numbered sequentially
  • Use SI units and standard engineering notation
  • Define symbols and abbreviations at first use

A journal template is available under Journal Template.

7. Figures, Tables, and Equations

  • Figures: clear resolution and readable labels
  • Tables: editable text (not images), with concise titles
  • Equations: use equation editor; define variables and units
  • Provide uncertainty/sensitivity/reliability analysis where relevant

8. Reference Style

RCIS requires consistent citation and referencing. Authors must ensure:

  • All references are cited in-text and listed in the reference section
  • DOIs are included whenever available
  • References reflect recent and relevant international literature

(Reference formatting must follow the journal template.)

9. Data and Reproducibility

Authors must include a Data Availability Statement describing:

  • Where data can be accessed, or
  • Why data cannot be shared (e.g., confidentiality)

Where applicable, authors should provide sufficient methodological detail to enable reproducibility.

10. Submission System

All manuscripts must be submitted through the RCIS online submission system (OJS). Submissions by email are not accepted.

11. Double-Blind Review Requirements

To ensure double-blind review:

  • The main manuscript file must not contain author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, or identifiable information.
  • Author details must be provided in the submission metadata and/or a separate title page file.

12. Editorial Screening

All submissions undergo initial screening for:

  • Scope fit
  • Originality and novelty
  • Methodological adequacy
  • Compliance with journal policies and formatting
  • Language clarity

Submissions not meeting minimum requirements may be rejected prior to peer review.
